How to influence people: six principles
Reciprocity
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Offer something first, then ask for what you want.
Authority
We trust doctors who wear white coat and display diplomas on the wall. Find out what your 'white coat' is.
Consistency
We look up to people who are consistent in their words and behaviours. Stick to one message and don't follow every trend.
Consensus
We need 'social proof'. If you want someone to do something, shows others doing it.
Scarcity
We want rare things and we are afraid to lose what we have. Point at what people will lose if they fail to act.
Liking
People say yes to people they like. We like people who are similar to us, who compliment us, and who move with us towards a common goal.
